This historic New Westminster home was once located close to what is now the downtown core of British Columbia's oldest city.

Considered too valuable to demolish when the city fathers were making room for business and commercial enterprises, they moved the house to its present location, where it had several interesting 'lives' before the Icelandic Canadian Club of British Columbia and its members raised the necessary funding to make it the Club's cultural center.

Loving care has been taken over ten years to restore the house in keeping with its history, while at the same time updating to modern standards.

The grounds of the house were restored and re-planted as a Millennium project to honour the memory of Icelanders who came to B.C. many years ago, and the President of Iceland dedicated the Garden on his recent visit to B.C.

The Club holds a monthly Directors' Meeting and occasional other small events at the house, and an excellent Icelandic Heritage Library is located on the main floor, but the home is better known as a pleasant and convenient rooming house, where visitors and students are made welcome by the live-in House Manager.

It's a large house with five upstairs guest rooms: two single rooms, three double, and two bathrooms to share.

The large main-floor kitchen is fully equipped with electric stove, two refrigerators and a small day-to-day freezer. (A second, large freezer is located in the basement.)
A microwave and dishwasher, together with all the necessary kitchen utensils make it easy to prepare your meals
. A large and pleasant dining room does double duty as a great place to study, where there is room to spread out your work, if needed. (Once a month, the dining room is reserved for the Club's Board Meetings.) A TV room as well as laundry facilities are located in the basement.

A large, new sun deck outside the kitchen makes a pleasant place to relax and gives our guests covered parking underneath.

It's a homey atmosphere, close to shopping, theatres, bus service and only about 20 minute drive to downtown Vancouver.

Iceland House is a No Smoking Environment.
